Strategic Partnership Announcement: TORK Motors and LOHUM Join Forces for Sustainable Battery Recycling

New Delhi: LOHUM, India’s leading producer of sustainable energy transition materials through battery recycling and low-carbon refining, and TORK Motors. A pioneering electric motorcycle manufacturer in India, are delighted to declare a strategic partnership. This collaboration is formalized through a multi-year supply contract agreement aimed at collecting and recycling the lithium-ion batteries of TORK’s flagship. Kratos R electric motorcycles upon reaching the end of their life cycle.

LOHUM, as TORK’s inaugural battery Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) partner in India. It marks a significant milestone in both companies’ efforts to expedite sustainable e-mobility. The partnership is designed to scale up a low-carbon EV battery materials supply chain in India. With LOHUM registered as an R4 recycler under India’s Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022). EV battery OEMs can rely on LOHUM to implement a closed-loop system.

The agreement aligns with the shared vision of both companies for circularity, aiming to drive the EV revolution and energy transition in India while mitigating the demand for environmentally and ethically costly mined primary ecosystem battery raw materials.

Facilitated by LOHUM’s DETX™ weighted future battery buyback price index, the partnership will see LOHUM recycling TORK Motors’ lithium-ion batteries using the NEETM™ multi-stage hydro-metallurgical process at LOHUM’s ‘Reclaim’ facility in Greater Noida.

Chetan Jain, Senior VP of Business Operations at LOHUM, commended TORK Motors’ commitment to sustainable EV motorcycles, emphasizing the partnership’s role in accelerating Electric Vehicle adoption in India’s vast 2-wheeler segment.

Kapil Shelke, Founder & CEO of TORK Motors, emphasized the importance of planning for the future in terms of battery recycling. Aligning with the brand’s commitment to long-term sustainability and positive environmental impact.

TORK Motors, known for its Kratos R electric motorcycle, features a patented 9kW ‘Axial Flux’ motor and an IP67-rated 4.0 kWh Li-ion battery pack, achieving an impressive IDC range of 180km. The partnership designates LOHUM as TORK Motor’s preferred recycling partner, ensuring compliance with India’s BWMR requirements and EPR certification for sustainable battery raw materials.
